Mechanism of Action
Lipo-C is a combination of Methionine, Inositol, Choline (MIC), and Cyanocobalamin (B12), each contributing to lipid metabolism through distinct pathways.
Methionine: Essential amino acid and methyl donor. Converted to S-adenosylmethionine (SAM), the universal methyl donor for DNA, RNA, protein, and lipid methylation reactions. SAM is also required for phosphatidylcholine synthesis via PEMT.
Inositol: A sugar alcohol that serves as a structural component of phosphatidylinositol (PI) and its phosphorylated derivatives (PIP2, PIP3), which are critical second messengers. Inositol also supports bile function and lipid transport.
Choline: Precursor to phosphatidylcholine (the major phospholipid in VLDL particles required for hepatic lipid export), betaine (alternative methyl donor), and acetylcholine. Choline deficiency causes hepatic steatosis.
B12: Essential cofactor for methionine synthase, which remethylates homocysteine to methionine, completing the methionine-SAM cycle. B12 deficiency blocks this cycle, impairing methylation and lipid metabolism.
