Research Benefits

  • Neuroprotection — VIP (Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide) is a 28-amino acid neuropeptide with demonstrated neuroprotective effects in models of neuroinflammation, excitotoxicity, and neurodegenerative disease.
  • Pulmonary Research — VIP's vasodilatory and anti-inflammatory properties in the pulmonary vasculature make it valuable for pulmonary hypertension and COPD research models.
  • Circadian Biology — VIP is a key neurotransmitter in the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN), essential for maintaining circadian rhythm synchronization among SCN neurons.
  • GI Physiology — As a major enteric neuropeptide, VIP regulates intestinal secretion, motility, and mucosal immunity, supporting gastrointestinal research.
  • Anti-Inflammatory — VIP suppresses pro-inflammatory cytokine production and promotes regulatory T-cell differentiation, making it a tool for immunology research.

Mechanism of Action

VIP is a 28-amino acid peptide belonging to the secretin/glucagon superfamily. It signals through two G-protein coupled receptors: VPAC1 and VPAC2.

VPAC1/VPAC2 Signaling: Both receptors couple to Gs, activating adenylyl cyclase and increasing intracellular cAMP. This activates PKA and Epac, mediating VIP's diverse biological effects.

Vasodilation: VIP relaxes vascular smooth muscle through cAMP-dependent inhibition of myosin light chain kinase and direct NO synthase activation in endothelial cells.

Neuroprotection: VIP activates VPAC2 on neurons, upregulating BDNF and activity-dependent neuroprotective protein (ADNP), and inhibiting excitotoxic calcium influx.

Immunomodulation: VIP shifts macrophage polarization from M1 (pro-inflammatory) to M2 (anti-inflammatory), suppresses Th1 responses, and promotes Treg differentiation through VPAC1 signaling on immune cells.

Research Protocol

For research use only.

Reconstitution

Reconstitute in sterile water or PBS with 0.1% BSA carrier. Stock: 100 μg/mL. VIP adsorbs to surfaces; use siliconized or low-binding tubes.

Research Dosing

  • In vivo (murine): 1-10 nmol/mouse IP or IV for immunomodulation; ICV for circadian studies.
  • In vitro: 1-100 nM for macrophage polarization, T-cell differentiation, and neuronal survival assays.
  • Pulmonary models: Nebulized delivery at 100-200 μg/mL in aerosol for pulmonary research.

Storage

Lyophilized at -20°C. Reconstituted: aliquot at -80°C. Working solutions at 2-8°C, use same day.

Safety & Handling

Research Use Only.

Known Considerations

  • VIP has a very short plasma half-life (~1 minute) due to rapid enzymatic degradation by DPP-IV and neutral endopeptidase.
  • Vasodilatory effects may cause transient hypotension at high systemic doses.
  • VIP can stimulate secretory diarrhea at high enteric doses through chloride channel activation.
  • Use fresh preparations; VIP is unstable in aqueous solution.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is VIP?
Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide is a 28-amino acid neuropeptide widely distributed in the central and peripheral nervous systems. It functions as a neurotransmitter, vasodilator, and immunomodulator.
Why does VIP need BSA carrier?
VIP readily adsorbs to plastic and glass surfaces. Adding 0.1% BSA or using low-binding tubes prevents concentration loss during handling and storage.
What purity is this product?
BeaCapra VIP is ≥99% pure by HPLC with COA provided.

Great product, COA checks out

Ran our own HPLC analysis and confirmed the purity claims. Packaging was secure and discreet. Only minor note — would love to see more size options for some of the newer compounds. Otherwise excellent.

Questions About VIP Spray

Nasal sprays offer rapid absorption through the nasal mucosa, bypassing first-pass metabolism. This delivery method provides higher bioavailability for many peptides compared to other routes.
Prime the pump with 2–3 actuations before first use. Tilt head slightly forward, insert nozzle into nostril, and press pump firmly. Alternate nostrils with each dose. Store upright at 2–8°C after opening.
Each spray bottle contains approximately 30–60 doses depending on the compound concentration and recommended dosing protocol. See product documentation for specific dose counts.
All BeaCapra peptides are independently verified to 99%+ purity via HPLC. The batch-specific Certificate of Analysis is available on this page and ships with your order.
Store lyophilized peptides at -20°C or lower for long-term storage. For short-term use, 2–8°C (refrigerator) is acceptable. Once reconstituted, store at 2–8°C and use within the timeframe on the product documentation. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
